Music Success in Nine Weeks Entry #3 - Goals Part - 2
So here is something I notice. Ariel tells us to write our list of 6 tasks for the day the night before. So I did this last night. I had every intention of completing my tasks and hoping for extra time to start other tasks. Here's my original list:
1. Meditate
2. Dream Board
3. Gym
4. Mail out CD's
5. Bank
6. Make appointment to service motorcycle
I completed tasks 1, 3, and 4, and planned to hit task 6 before 7 PM when the shop closes, but all of a sudden I find myself lost in the world of html code. I spent a good 4 hours working on my website to clean it up. By the time I was done, I was so burnt mentally. I took a break to eat dinner, then realized at around 7:30 I forgot to call the motorcycle shop. Still burnt from the computer, I vegged in front of the TV.
I tried to lessen my guilt by playing my guitar and working on my new song during commercial breaks, and when I got burnt out on that, I decided to clip some pictures out of my Guitar Center catalogs for my dream board.
This brings up a pattern for me, at least I think it does. A pattern of losing focus and not sticking to the tasks at hand. I feel like in the case above though, it wasn't a wash because these are things I will do eventually anyhow, so it's all good...at least for these little things. Maybe it's just I go with the flow instead?
I know the website tweaking was a result of reading something of Ariel's about never knowing what page of your website someone may land on, so I wanted to make each page as consistent as possible.
So long story long, my actual tasks for today; my 5 successes are:
1. Meditated
2. Worked out
3. Mailed out CDs
4. Started on my dream board
5. Cleaned up my website - http://www.oneworldrevolution.us
I also started on my actual goals. Here are the generalized versions for my music goals for the next 12 months:
1. Write and record a new 13 song album.
2. Have one of my songs in the Billboard Top 100 Chart.
3. Tour the world.
4. Have my music placed in film/TV.
5. Have a great business team supporting me - booking agency(s), manager (business), marketing team, etc.
6. Film 3 music videos.
I started on my music goals for my lifetime:
1. Become inducted into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame.
2. Win several Grammy Awards.
3. Be recognized as an artist that helped make the world a better place through my music.
This is actually challenging to come up with lifetime music goals.
My plan is to finish the generalized lists, then go back and hammer out the details. What's left are a few more lifetime music goals, money goals for the next 12 months, and lifetime goals.
All this thinking makes my brain hurt! LOL! Hopefully at the end of this, the 15-hour work days will come to an end and I'll find some play time in there somewhere. : )

Music Success in Nine Weeks Entry #2 - Goals Part 1
First let me start off by saying, AGH!!!!!! It took me like 5 minutes to figure out how to get back to my main page so I can post a new blog-lol! Modern technology is my current challenge!
To stay on track, today's 5 successes are:
1. Set up my Last.fm profile (boy is this website ever not user friendly).
2. Scheduled a phone meeting with a booking agent for next Monday. Funny thing about this is that I wrote out my 6 tasks for today and task #3 was simply - "Booking Agents". I had found an old Music Connection magazine that had contact info listed for most of the major booking agents, so I decided I would solicit each one that fit me today to see about getting one or two on board with helping me book a tour this summer/fall. I opened up my email and my publicist had introduced me to one of her booking contacts and now I have a phone meeting...saves me some work...unless of course the agency is unable to sign me. But we won't think about that. : )
3. I updated my Myspace page. I have been focusing so much on facebook these days I have neglected my Myspace. Are people still using it?
4. Did an email interview with PensEyeView.com.
5. Blasted my facebook peeps with an event - 1-Day CD Sale - Happy Birthday to me and actually sold a few CDs!
Next we move into the goal setting assignment. I went through the 20 focus areas Ariel suggested in her book and narrowed (well, if you wanna call it that - 17 out of 20?) my focus areas down to these:
1. Online & Social Networking Strategies
2. Website
3. PR - Print/Radio/Online
4. Booking
5. Songwriting
6. # of CDs/Downloads to Sell
7. $ to Earn
8. Film/TV Placements
9. Building Fan Base
10. How many people added to e-list?
11. # of people at next gig?
12. # of people at each gig for next 12 months?
13. Manager/Agent
14. Diversify Online Presence
15. Buy New Equipment
16. Personal Health
17. Mental Health
This is a general off the top, most urgent, 6 goals for page 15 in the book:
1. Get into alignment with my successful outcome
2. Book a tour
3. Get radio play
4. Set up affiliate links and other passive income stream sources
5. Sell CDs/downloads
6. Get my songs film/TV placements
As I said, this is a general listing. I will begin the process of specificity over the next few blog posts. As you can see by the general theme here, getting money flowing in is the most important thing right now.
I am realizing as I look over these goals and think about getting specific and detailed and setting dates. A feeling of, "Man, I hate this shit" comes to mind - lol! This is where I begin to get in my own way with procrastination.
Fear also comes up - "What if I write down a date and by that date it doesn't happen?" I tend to dream really big...so do I dream really big knowingly setting myself up for failure or do I dream really big, get my ass in alignment as in Goal 1, and make it happen? Wow, now that is really scary! We're gonna go for it!
1. Get into alignment with my successful outcome:
a. Do daily meditations and visualize and focus all my energy on my intended outcomes.
b. Make a dream/vision board and look at it daily. (I actually bought a big poster board and some cut outs yesterday at Michael's for this.)
c. Live as though my desired outcome is already fulfilled.
Deadline: Ongoing, daily!
2. Book a tour:
a. Access further action required after speaking with booking agency on Monday.
Deadline: July 19, 2010, revisit.
3. PR - Print/Radio/Online:
a. Continue working with public relations team to garner print/online CD reviews and interviews, posting snippets/links to my website as they come in.
b. Hire an intern to work on radio promotion. Place an ad on website listed in Ariel's book.
c. Win a campaign with Cyber PR for my online PR. : ) Blog my ass off!
Deadline: a) November 30, 2010; b) July 31, 2010: c) September 6, 2010 :)
4. Set up affiliate links and other passive income stream sources:
a. CafePress Store - get it happening again and promote it.
b. Get all my affiliates listed on my website and promote then when they have offers of interest to my fan base.
c. Research passive income streams.
Deadline: a) July 23, 2010; b) July 23, 2010; c) Ongoing, set up as required
5. Sell CDs/downloads:
a. Develop new and innovative ways to make urgency purchase offers on CD sales. Downloads are via CD Baby, ReverbNation, etc.
b. Live shows merch sales.
Deadline: both are ongoing
6. Get my songs film/TV placements:
a. Stay in touch with Robert Cheeke about his submitting my CDs to his movie producer friends.
b. Continue writing songs with Tony for Banshee Music Publishing placements.
Deadline: both are ongoing
